Scholarly Collaboration Networks have grown rapidly since the beginning of the 21st century and have become an important and unique role in the current scholarly communication system. As the influence of SCNs has expanded, conflicts between publishers and SCNs have been frequent, directly due to the fact that some SCNs provide access to a large number of copyrighted scholarly publications, especially journal articles. However, in recent years, some publishers turned to a different collaborative strategy, and the related processes provide a new perspective on the current scholarly communication ecology. This paper first explores the characteristics of the conflict between publishers and mainstream SCNs through the disputes between them; then, combined with official survey reports and literature research, systematically review the partnership between Spring Nature and ResearchGate from the perspectives of cooperation strategies and effects, focusing on three points: articles association, permission verification, and data exchange. Finally, inspired by the cooperation and taking into account library information service, proposing to establish a user-centered approach and greater emphasis on the value of data in research activities. |
