The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has become a key area of global
technological innovation. The patent layout and examination practices of inventions and utility models in this
field in Japan have garnered significant attention. The evolution of AI technology is outlined, with a focus on the
measures taken by the Japan Patent Office (JPO) to adapt the patent system to the development of AI technology.
An analysis of JPO’s informatization plans and examination guidelines reveals Japan’s strategies for enhancing
patent examination efficiency and quality, and discusses the policies and initiatives of the Japanese government
in promoting the development and protection of AI technology. Finally, recommendations are put forward for
China’s AI patent layout and examination to foster cooperation and exchange between China and Japan in the AI
sector. |
