英文摘要:
Futures serve as a universal parallel programming mechanism widely used to represent the results of asynchronous computations. However, existing research on futures primarily focuses on single-machine parallel models, lacking formal characterization of evaluation mechanisms in distributed environments. Interestingly, distributed futures have already been applied to real distributed systems and proven to be a reasonable distributed parallel programming mechanism. This paper proposes λDFut, a parallel calculus extended from the simply typed λ-calculus (STLC) that formally models the behavior of distributed futures, bridging the gap between theory and practice. The system introduces two primitives at the language level: creating asynchronous tasks (fut) and synchronization (wait),and provides serial evaluation, parallel evaluation, and distributed evaluation semantics. We prove the basic properties of the system under well-typed programs, as well as the result equivalence of the three semantics, thereby providing a theoretical foundation for understanding and constructing distributed futures systems.
